This policy explains the cookies and similar browser storage that Marketing Window uses. Today that's only what we need to sign you in, plus a note of whether you chose the light or dark theme. We don't use analytics or advertising cookies. If you only browse our website without signing in, we don't set any cookies at all.
What we use today
A cookie is a small text file a website saves in your browser. Local storage is similar, but it stays in your browser and isn't sent to our servers.
| Name | What it does | Type | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
sb-…-auth-token | Keeps you signed in to the app. Our website pages also check whether it exists, so the menu can show "Open app" instead of "Log in". Large sessions are split into parts ending .0, .1 and so on. | Essential | Until you sign out, and at most 400 days |
Names starting sb-…-auth-token and ending code-verifier | A security check that makes sure a sign-in started in your browser is finished in the same browser. | Essential | Cleared when you sign out, and at most 400 days |
mw_next | Remembers which page to take you back to after you click your sign-in link. It's only sent to our sign-in pages. | Essential | 30 minutes, and deleted once you've signed in |
mw-theme (local storage) | Remembers whether you chose the light or dark theme. It's only saved when you use the theme switch. | Preference | Until you clear it |
mw-formats | Remembers the ad formats you picked recently in Discover, so they come first in the row. Only sent to the app. | Preference | 180 days |
mw-recent-brands (local storage) | Remembers the last few brands you searched in the app, so you can open them again quickly. | Preference | Until you clear it |
A few notes on these:
- All of them are set by our own site. None are set by a third party.
- The sign-in cookies are only created when you ask for a sign-in link or sign in. The middle part of their names is the ID of our database project.
- We use the sign-in cookies only for the purposes above, not to track what you do on other sites.
- Essential cookies don't need your consent, because sign-in can't work without them. The theme setting is only saved when you ask for it.
No analytics or advertising cookies
We don't use analytics, advertising, social media or tracking cookies. We don't use tracking pixels or device fingerprinting, and we don't share data with advertising networks.
We may add tools later, such as product analytics or error monitoring, to help us improve the product. Before we add any cookie that isn't essential, we'll update this page. Where the law requires it, we'll also ask for your consent first, with a clear choice to say no.
Third parties
Today, no third party sets cookies through our website or app. Some features planned for later will involve other companies:
- Payments. When paid plans and credit packs launch, Stripe's payment form will set cookies that Stripe needs to prevent fraud. Stripe's own privacy policy covers them.
- YouTube ads in the app. We show Google and YouTube ads using YouTube's own player, rather than copying the video. When that player loads, Google may set its own cookies under its own policies.
- Google sign-in. If you choose to sign in with Google once it's available, you'll sign in on Google's pages, where Google's own cookies apply.
We'll add these to the table above, with their purposes and lifetimes, before they go live.
When you follow a link to another site, such as an ad's source page on a platform's ad library, that site's own cookie policy applies.
How to control them
- Browser settings. Every major browser lets you see, block and delete cookies and local storage. Look in your browser's privacy or security settings, or its help pages.
- Blocking essential cookies. If you block or delete the sign-in cookies, you won't be able to sign in or stay signed in to the app. Our website pages will still work.
- Signing out. Signing out of the app clears the sign-in cookies from your browser.
- Theme. Clearing your browser's site data resets the theme to light. You can switch it again at any time.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page whenever we add, remove or change a cookie, and change the "Last updated" date at the top. If we add cookies that need your consent, we'll ask you before we set them. For significant changes that affect account holders, we'll also let you know by email or in the app. Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal data more generally, and our terms of service cover your use of the service.
